The Fiano di Avellino ‘Clos d’Haut’ from the Villa Diamante winery is a label with a elegant and seductive style made from one of the most celebrated white grape varieties in the Italian wine scene: Fiano. This wine, produced for the first time with the 2013 vintage, was born from the foresight of Antoine Gaita, the owner who unfortunately passed away prematurely, who identified a vineyard of one and a half hectares within the municipality of Montefredane particularly suited for the cultivation of Fiano. Due to the high altitude, the plot was named ‘Clos d’Haut’, meaning “high clos”.
Villa Diamante Fiano di Avellino ‘Clos d’Haut’ is a 100% Fiano from vines about 15 years old rooted in clay soils of volcanic origin at about 530 meters above sea level. The plants, managed organically, enjoy a cool exposure to the northeast. The harvest is done by hand usually in the third decade of October and the clusters are then brought to the winery and subjected to soft pressing, with only the free-run must undergoing alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The subsequent maturation phase also takes place in steel, where the wine rests for 11 months on the fine lees before a further 6 months of aging in bottle that precede the final marketing.
The ‘Clos d’Haut’ Fiano di Avellino from Villa Diamante has an intense straw-yellow color. The nose carries a generous and complex aromatic baggage, made up of scents of white-fleshed fruit, citrus, flowers, and aromatic herbs, combined with hints of cereals and clean marine mineral puffs. Energetic yet precise taste, material yet fresh, with a distinct savory-mineral character that accompanies the long citrus finish.
