The Malvasia Istriana from Cotar is a rich and multifaceted orange wine, among the brightest interpretations in Slovenian land. Carso, a magical yet essential area, made of rocks and wild, unspoiled landscapes. It is in this setting, more precisely near the village of Gorjansko, that the Cotar winery was founded in 1974, and since then the adopted approach has always been aimed at the absence of interventionism and respect for nature and life. Artisan liquids, full of emotion, obtained from local grapes such as Vitovska, Malvasia Istriana, and Terrano, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon. A must-try to "drink" an experience.
The white Malvasia Istriana comes from pure grapes of the same name from a vineyard of just over one hectare cultivated organically. The vines are about 30 years old and rest on red and limestone soil. The conscientious management of the vineyard continues in the winery; in fact, after destemming and crushing the bunches, spontaneous fermentation is followed by seven days of maceration in open wooden vats, followed by malolactic fermentation.Aging for two and a half years in large oak barrels on the fine lees, with no clarification or filtration before bottling.
The Malvasia Istriana wine from Cotar reveals itself in the glass with an enchanting golden yellow hue, edged with orange reflections. Stunning first nose for intensity of the aromas emitted by the liquid, which brings to mind ripe peaches, hawthorns, and the generous creaminess typical of this aromatic grape variety. Broad and seductive, the wine also shows all its substance on the palate, combining richness and brightness, enveloping the mouth. But halfway through the sip, the liquid changes gear and extends along a refined saline thread and a slight tannic friction. Transcendental and unmissable.
